Advent is a season of wondering, waiting, watching and reflecting, in anticipation of the arrival of Jesus. There are different traditions and practices related to Advent as we reflect on hope, joy, love and peace. Christmas is the time where we celebrate Jesus’ birth and in Epiphanytide we reflect on the manifestation of Jesus and his glory.
This year’s Diocesan Advent course stretches from 30th November (Advent Sunday) to 2nd February (Candlemas), encompassing the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. For each day a short reflection will be offered on a word, with art, music, writings and actions suggested as we journey to the Cradle and through the season of Epiphany.
Following on from the last Advent, Christmas and Epiphany course. The words are taken from Advent Word (30 November-25 December) which is led by Forward Movement, linking the Diocesan reflections into the global network. The words for 26th December to 2nd February are based on the commemoration or Gospel reading for the previous Sunday that day and chosen by the Diocesan Advisor for Christian Life.
The course is designed to be used by individuals or by groups. You may wish to gather once a week to reflect on the past weeks’ words and activities.
The reflections for each day will be posted on the Diocesan website under ‘Food for Thought‘.
