Vestry Secretaries
A Vestry Secretary is a key member of a church Vestry, which is a group or committee responsible for managing the church’s affairs.

What are the responsibilities of the Vestry Secretary?
The Vestry Secretary plays a key role in documenting Vestry meetings and the Annual General Meeting, taking minutes, maintaining records for the church and the Diocesan Office, and facilitating the Vestry meetings by issuing agendas and providing supporting information. The Vestry Secretary is appointed annually by members of the church vestry.
The key responsibilities of the Vestry Secretary are as follows:
- Arranging Vestry meetings, including agreeing and issuing agendas
- Taking minutes at Vestry meetings and circulating them to Vestry members
- Convening and taking minutes at the church AGM
- Assisting with the provision of information for the Diocesan Office and the General Synod Office
- Providing information for the induction of new vestry members
- Working closely with the church Treasurer to ensure reporting required by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator are fulfilled
- ensuring that the congregation complies with copyright licencing and performing rights requirements and all records comply with the Data Protection Act.
