Mme Isabel Murray
Mme Isabel Murray (d.1972) will be a well-known name to a whole generation of Aberdonians. A talented and strong-willed dance instructor, she taught at Robert Gordon’s junior school, ran dancing clubs for secondary children, was rumoured to have a rifle range in her dance studio, and raised money to found the original Garden for the Blind in Victoria Park. This is the briefest summary of a life full of activity and mostly discreet charity – in her will she left a substantial sum to the Episcopal Church so that rectors could help out families in some particular need in their congregation.
