God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
‘Lifting our souls, Trusting in God is the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney’s Lent and Easter Course for 2026. From Ash Wednesday (18 February) to Trinity Sunday (24 May) there will be daily posts on the website.
Today is the Ascension of the Lord, commemorating the day that 40 days after his resurrection Jesus ascended into heaven. It is 10 days before Pentecost and marks the beginning of the end of Eastertide. The Paschal candle is extinguished and the church waits for the events of Pentecost. It’s traditionally been a time of prayer for the church – which is the routes of the Thy Kingdom Come movement (some ideas here).
The Collect for today is Almighty God, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven. Mercifully give us faith to know that, as he promised, he abides with us on earth to the end of time; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
As today is Ascension Day, the reflection materials are the readings set for today.
The material can be read and/or downloaded below.
