Members of the Diocese are invited to attend the Eucharist at the beginning of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney Synod and to attend the Synod meeting.
Each year the Diocese meets in Synod to elect people to represent the Diocese, consider matters from and to the Provincial Scottish Episcopal Church, consider matters related to the Diocese and gather together to share stories and worship God. Each congregation in the Diocese is entitled to send one lay representative to vote at Synod, forming the House of Laity. Clergy with commissions and licenses form the House of Clergy, with the Bishop forming the House of Bishops.
The Synod Eucharist will take place at 9.30am at King’s College Chapel, Aberdeen. This constitutes the beginning of Synod and all members of the Diocese are warmly invited to attend. We will renew our Baptism vows and Holy Oils will be blessed for use in charges throughout the year (for healing, Baptism, Confirmation and the Last Rites). All are most welcome to come to the Eucharist and to pray for the Synod, whether you wish to come to the Synod Meeting or not.
This is followed by coffee in the Elphinstone Hall (a short walk from the King’s College Quadrangle) and the meeting. If you wish to attend the meeting, you are welcome to do so, but only those elected/designated members can speak. Others can be permitted to speak at the discretion of the Chair of the meeting. If you would like to attend the Synod meeting, Synod meeting lunch or the coffee following the Eucharist, it would help with planning (so we can make sure we’ve got enough chairs in the hall and food) if you could register your attendance at the form here.
