These questions, and more, are some of the themes we’ll be exploring in the third week of Credo – Nicaea 1700 gatherings across the Diocese between 12-23 November 2025.
The ‘One Spirit and One Church’ lunch at St James Aberdeen (Monday 17 November) and the gatherings at St Andrew’s Alford (Friday 14 November) and St Ternan’s Banchory (Tuesday 18 November) we will explore what it means to each of us to profess that we believe in One Holy Spirit and One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church in the third part of the Nicene Creed.
Resources will be available to the wider Diocese – including a new set of Credo cards for use in the days leading to the start of the church’s new year: Advent Sunday.
All are welcome to participate in some or all the activities. All events are free, including refreshments. Please feel free to meet some new people, and reflect on your and our Christian faith focused on the Nicene Creed.
On Sunday 16th November, there will be a short input at St Mary-on-the-Rock , Ellon following the regular 11am Eucharist service.

These are the third week of events across the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney to mark the 1700th anniversary of the Ecumenical Council at Nicaea in 325AD. The meeting at Nicaea (now in modern day Türkiye) established a clear understanding of the nature of Christ and the centrality of his life, death and resurrection for our salvation.
