Food for thought
This section contains a variety of material, some for individual or group use for particular times of the year, resources for personal spiritual practices, heroes of our faith profile and resources for different times of the church year (e.g. Christmas, Easter).
These materials are provided to help us as we seek to Abide in Jesus and he says abide in my love (John 15.4,9).

Seasonal Courses
In our baptismal vows we promise to continue engaging with our faith, continuing our faith journeys. One way of doing this is through prayer, study and reflection, either individually or with other people. At some times of the year as we walk towards a significant event in the Church year like Christmas or Easter materials are produced by the Diocese for individuals and groups to use. Online Diocesan discussion groups are sometimes offered as part of the course.

Past courses
Lifting our souls, Trusting in God.
‘Lifting our souls, Trusting in God is the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney’s Lent and Easter Course for 2026. From Ash Wednesday (18 February) to Trinity Sunday (24 May) there will be daily posts on the website.
The name of the course comes from Psalm 25: 1-2. As we journey through Lent, Holy Week, Easter to Ascension and Pentecost the course aims to help us reflect, discern, and listen to God through these seasons.
Seasonal Resources
As the earth has different seasons, as does the church. Each focuses on an event in the life of Jesus (e.g. Christmas, Easter), or as we walk through our lives looking at God’s kingdom in the world (Ordinary Time). The Scottish Episcopal Church observes the ecumenical Season of Creation in September each year.

Spiritual Practices
These materials are an invitation to explore, they include ‘how to’ guides for contemplative or active practices, and may include people’s reflections on how specific activities as individuals or groups help their relationship with God.

Heroes of Our Faith
Heroes of the Faith is a series profiling people with connections to the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney who can provide examples of living a Christian Life. They may be in the calendar of the Scottish Episcopal Church as named Saints or as those recognised by the church as ‘heroes of the faith or they might be people known for something connected to their faith from Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, the Orkney Islands or the Shetland Islands.
