Today you’re invited to reflect on the word ‘Day’.
Today is also the Feast of St Nicholas of Myra, who was known for giving gifts secretly leading to the link to Sinterklaas – Santa Claus. St Nicholas is one of the patrons of the Diocese, pictured rescuing children on the Diocesan crest. St Nicholas of Myra is reputed to have been at the Council of Nicaea 1700 years ago. The Collect for St Nicholas is
Almighty Father, lover of souls,
who chose your servant Nicholas
to be a bishop in the Church,
that he might give freely out of the treasures of your grace:
make us mindful of the needs of others
and, as we have received, so teach us also to give;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
